Your overall health can affect your risks of complications during and after surgery. Medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity are modifiable risk factors, best improved before surgery. When recovering from surgery, your body also requires additional calories, proteins as well as fluids, vitamins and minerals. To help with this, your nutrition status before surgery is key. Smoking
Smoking has many detrimental effects on your body and it can affect your recovery after surgery. Wounds can heal slower and the risk of infection is greater if you smoke. For help with smoking cessation:
